Book Group: A History of God by Karen Armstrong
The idea came to a group of us while hanging out at our local watering hole. Members pursued various educational backgrounds including philosophy, computer science and mathematics education. Why do I put this down one might ask?? Following several discussions each of us has felt a bit of lament over the fact that our formal education and work presses us to pigeon-hole our knowledge while each of us values generalist ideals. That is..we like to learn about, research and discuss a wide variety of topics not just the ones we have pursued in more formal ways through rusty old academia.
Our first order of business (OK more of a plan) was to read A History of God by Karen Armstrong. As we didn't find any great book club questions to use we just read the first two chapters and held a meeting to discuss. What follows are the questions, comments and general discussion topics from our first meeting.
